Endometriosis is the emergence and growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus, especially in the pelvic cavity and in the ovaries, behind the uterus, uterine ligaments, the bladder or bowel.
Endometriosis is a relatively common disorder that can affect any woman of childbearing age, from menarche to menopause, but sometimes, endometriosis can last until after menopause.
Endometriosis impairs the quality of life of women with the disease, affecting their relationships, family, work and play.

When endometriotic tissue grows, packages are called tumors or implants, which most often are benign or not cancerous and rarely associated with endometrial cancer.

Endometriosis implants are influenced by the menstrual cycle, so that in each period, the woman who suffers from endometriosis, endometriotic tumors also bleed, unable to leave the blood outside the body, develop inflammation and scar tissue or fibrosis, subsequently resulting in intestinal obstruction, gastrointestinal bleeding and urinary disorders.

Symptoms of endometriosis

  • Pain: The most common symptom of endometriosis. It is located mainly in the abdomen, lower back and pelvis, which can be mild to severe. The intensity of pain is not related to the amount to be suffering from endometriosis. Usually appear or become more severe during menstruation and worsen over time.

  • Dyspareunia: Pain may occur during or after sex.

  • Voiding symptoms: Appears for urinary bladder involvement, and usually with painful urination or dysuria, frequency, urgency and even hematuria.

  • Hypermenorrhea: Consists of abundant menstrual bleeding in both time and quantity of blood. Sometimes, metrorrhagia occurs outside of menses.

  • Infertility: Difficulty or inability to become pregnant.

  • Bowel Disorders: As diarrhea, constipation, painful defecation or anal pain, cramping, ..

  • Asthenia: Also called fatigue.
